I have a few assorted Winchester Leverguns, here are a couple 1876's. The top one is a 45-75 shipped to W.F. Sheard in Livingston, MT. The lower us a 45-60. I did put a Tang peep on the 45-60 to help it look a bit nicer...

Nice looking rifles. Where are you getting your .45-75 brass now that Jamison International has closed up shop?

I got them from an old guy that was reforming them from 50 Alaskan brass...

Thanks. I'll have to look into that.

shrapnel,
Thanks for sharing photos of those clean beauties!
I sense a MLV connection- somehow :)

There is just something about Win 76s. Can't put my finger on it but they sure keep my interest up in collecting and shooting Winchester levers. Even the 45-75 has a special appeal all its own, could be I've had such good luck shooting that caliber or could be the history and the NWMP connection?

So you have heard of MLV???

Actually, Mike IS one of the gun writers I read and believe is honest as the day is long on the things he tests and shoots and writes about. Just put two and two together. Never shot with him, but have purchased some of his extra BPCR stuff in the past.

Now don't go overboard there, He has made his share of mistakes, it just seems he likes to write about mine...

So you have heard of MLV??? -shrapnel

Had the pleasure of meeting and visiting with MLV and Steve Garbe in Raton years ago before I (finally) developed an interest in leverguns and BPCR's. Good folks. Can't believe it took me so many years to see the light.

Very nice rifles, thanks for sharing. Very nice indeed. MLV didn't publish pics and name names, did he? If so I'm sure lots of folks learned from your mistakes.

The problem is that much of what he has written about, I helped develop the story or caused the reaction that helped to make the story. I sked him why he didn't write more about those instances, he told me "You can have fame or justice, but you can't have both."

If you were to read the latest edition of "Guns" magazine that is on the newsstand today, you will see articles on shooting BPCR and money guns. Both times he referred to "a friend" but won't give me justice, instead he keeps writing about the less notable aspects of my shooting and I again get some fame, but no justice...

Nah, don't know anything about all that. I just put two and two together based on your avatar and those two Win 76s. They seem very similar to a couple of the test rifles Mike used in 'Shooting Lever Guns of the Old West'.

Shrapnel, those are both very nice condition '76's. I had a '76 several years ago and sold it to get the funds to buy some other Winchester. After I sold it, however, I really missed the '76 so I decided that if I ever get my hands on another one, I'll be keeping it. Fortunately, a friend of mine was selling his and I now have a '76 in my modest collection. It is a standard 45-60 and is somewhat of a tack driver, capable of giving 1 & 1/2" five-shot groups at 100 yards. I got 40 brass cases from Rocky Mountain Cartridges. Here is a photo ....

I have taken small and big game both with 1876's, my son even shot his bear in Alaska with the 45-75...

Ah man that looks like too much fun! Great pictures. MLV is definatly one of if not my favorite writer ever. I always look for his articles in my magazines. Learned a lot from those write ups. Love those Winchesters!

It is good to see those '76s bringing home the game. That is one thing that I have not done yet with my '76, although I did hunt Whitetail Deer with mine this past fall. I did see one nice doe but, alas, I had only a buck tag. Shrapnel, I am impressed with the nice condition of your '76s. It is not easy to find them in that nice of condition. That deluxe is particularly mouth-watering and way out of my league.

Might as well throw my hat in the 76 ring. Here's the highest condition one I have. Might be unfired. Spec. order, DOM 1880, 45-75.

Couple of more hats in the ring.

Top is a NWMP 76 contract carbine in 45-75 (also has APP stamp)
Bottom is a standard 76 rifle in 45-75

These shoot very well.

405, you are making me envious! Beautiful collection of 76's!

KirkD, don't know which is better- envious or poor and since I too like to shoot them, I think it's the bore condition that makes me poorer! :)

Dang, the 76s are addicting- just something about them. Almost have the same feeling when handling the much later 71s.

Make no mistake, the one you posted along with those posted by shrapnel are all extremely fine rifles.

If I ever get photos figured out, I'll show some of my '86 50-110. SO 30" octagon bbl and full magazine.
