I just received 2 new molds from midway they are both Lee molds.
The first on is a 358-158 grn WC with a gas check it is casting at 355 1/2 to357. This is a six cavity mold.
The other one is the Lee 310 RN gas check 2 cavity mold it is casting at 427 to 428.
Is this right? I have a 356 125 grn 6 cavity mold witch casts a 356 to 357 booltie. Im not haveing any truble with it.
Any input I would appreciate it
Thanks Flip

What percent of tin are you using?

I was useing range pick up. It was a mix of jacket and cast lead.
I have some WW that I have processed into ingots.
So to say how much tin I don't know.

Send them back.

Your 356-125 mould is evidence that Lee can produce a mould that casts as it should. The other two are proof that Lee has quality control problems.

At one time, I didn't mind being Lee's end-user quality control department, but the work load became too heavy and the pay was lousy, so I quit.

I'm going to try the WW to see if it a alloy problem if not off they go back to Lee

Hooboy. Let's hope the new CNC lathe operator Lee Precision hired wasn't the flunky that's been directing manufacturing for Lyman moulds for the last few years.

I have a whole fleet of Lee moulds and one thing I have yet to see is an undersized one, but it's tough to MAKE one cast boolits that are more than a thousandth under the adversized size, even with really cold moulds and pure lead.

How about some pics of these undersized boolits? Adding some tin will add some girth, but not that much, maybe a half-thousandth or so.

The WW worked on the 429-310 mold but not for the 357-158
The 429 is now casting at 429 to 429 1/2
The 358 is still under sized at 357 to 357 1/2 one cavity is now at
358.
I leads something today. Some of the range pickup needs some tin.
I'm going to use this in my ML.
I'm waiting for some gas checks to come in so I can load some to see if
My Tender and M 94 likes the 310 grn Boolits.
Thanks for the help fellas.

Most range scrap needs tin for fillout, hardness, size, and something you may not have thought about yet: Controlling antimony wash in the barrel.

429 is good in some 44-40's but i doubt that a 300 gr boolit will feed to well.
send them back.

i kinda hope they did hire the lyman dude, i need some more 4 cavity molds.
and they aren't gonna come from lyman till they get thier act together..
