Well I did it, swore I wasn't going to pay that much. But after working the last weekend and looking forward to two more work filled weekends I desided to treat myself to a one of 823 gun.

My luck they will start another run of them mid summer

Now what to do with the 44-SBH

So, another example of the changing the name of something because we can. Sorry, a Super Blackhawk is chambered in 44Mag, always has been and always will be. But, don't let my old fogy ways stand in the way of "progress".

That, and it always had the larger grip frame and square trigger guard...now the title SBH is anyone's guess as to what you will get.

Looks like you'll be havin' fun shootin" them. I wouldn't be getting rid of the 44 SBH though, at not just yet......you might just deserve having both for all that hard work!:drinks:

Enjoy the "Super Blackhawk" in .45 Colt. (Frankly, had it been chambered in .454 I would have been more impressed.)

Enjoy shooting it, I hope that it is worth the investment.

It's pretty much the same as my 44 only lighter, cause of the big hole down the barrel.

454PB,
I looks like your barrel was rebored since it has the Ruger lawyer roll stamp. Who did the work?
I have the same scope for mine, I hardly use it except for load development.

Musky,
Maybe your .45 and .44 will birth a Single-Six Hunter then you will have a whole family of Hunters.

Wisconsin has wonderful fishing--you can always use that tired old 44-SBH for an anchor.

Though I think Larry had it right--you don't need two guns so similar in purpose--so one should be taken from you by our benevelent dictator and given to a have-not.

My mate had an old SBH in 44Mag with a 5.5" Bbl. Niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeee gun! I just shortened one to 7.5" (it was 10 1/2", kept setting the alarm off in my safe as the only way I could fit it in was across the top section where the sender unit was). Maybe yours would go well with a shorter tube.

I've always wanted a Hunter. Not real keen on that Laminated (but extremely sensible grip) and I kinda prefer the blued finish, so I will tough it out with my gun for the moment.

I've never seen a SBH in 45Colt in Australia, I've seen plenty of 44Mags, owned a few, still own one. All of the 45s imported here seem to be 44Mags.

Very impressive results. I might have to order one especially. It would be worth the wait.

Sorry, but you'd be incomplete. They made the Super Blackhawk Hunter in 41 Mag also.

I have the .45 colt SBH Hunter BISLEY, its one of my favorites to shoot. EXTREMELY accurate. I am hoping MiHecs .45 "Ruger ONLY" mold serves it well this weekend.

Hi,
I bet that RSBH Hunter in 41 mag is hard to locate!!! And a bit pricey when you do! Here is a pic of my 41 mag BH with a SBH hammer, free spin pawl, honed cyl.throats,11 degree crown, trigger job, slow rust blue finish and steel ejector housing. Very accurate with the RCBS 210 SWC boolit!

That load is exactly what wound up working in my 7.5 inch 45 colt ruger also. Offhand at 100 yards I can hit a 12 / 12 steel plate every time. A very satisfying "thuuunnnngg" coming back at me.

I think he means the one in the pic

Just don't know who makes the 452424 assuming its a mold

454PB
04-25-2012, 10:21 PM
452424 is a Lyman mold for the Keith 260 SWC. In this case, they weigh 235 grains due to the high antimony content.

I used to have the SBH in .44 mag. It was a fine shooter. But . . . it was a magnum. Shooting a lot of rounds in succession made for pain in my elbows. Several years ago I picked up RB in .45 Colt & I love it! Comfortable to shoot & plenty of power to kill a hog.
I thought that I would have to scope it after having cataract surgery but I can see the sights just fine. I shoot a Lyman 255gr. SWCGC with 8.0 grs. of unique. The attached picture is 30 rounds fired with open sights @ 15 yds..

OK-- So I am not an expert on theses pistols, but, I thought we wanted a nice snug fit in the throat. What did I miss ?

Don't forget, the bullets grow. When he picks a bigger heavier hunting bullet, that little bit of clearance will be helpful for chambering.

Hi,
I bet that RSBH Hunter in 41 mag is hard to locate!!! And a bit pricey when you do!

Ruger still has them listed as a distributor special. I'm sure they're not cheap. I have an earlier model with gray laminate grips (Bisley) and love it!

I have to press them through (dowel and about 10lbs). just dont need a hammer like my new model BH needed.

I believe that Davidson's online Gallery of Guns carried those 41 Mag SBH Hunter's a few years ago. I don't recall if the Bisley version was also available from them as well.
