I just picked up a Remington 14-A in 25 Remington. Anyone know of a good load to start with using a 87-90gr cast bullet? I have moulds for both weights & like em in my 250 Savage, would like to use em in this little pump gun too. Thanks in advance for any help.

Must be catching, I just picked up a model 14 too, but in 30 Remington, since I already had 30 cal molds. 150+ rounds of hard to find ammo along with it. That'd cost over $240 now. Can't wait to shoot it up so I can load em with boolits. Now where's the slide action section of this board?

The Remington family of pump guns are great rifles. I owned a 14 in 25 Remington and currently own an early transation model 141 in 30 Remington.

The 25 Remington has a 1-10 twist barrel and the 30 has a 1-12 twist barrel.

The 1-10 twist 25 Remington is not cast bullet "unfriendly", but you will find it difficult to get high end cast bullet loads to shoot well. The 1-12 twist 30 Remington is very much cast bullet friendly.

I have noted with my 141 (First few months of production, where they used up the left over 14 barrels) in 30 Remington that it has almost zero barrel throat. This makes you have to deep seat the cast bullets unless you take a throating reamer to the barrel and create some space for the full diameter part of the bullet to rest.

Being a dedicated 2400 shooter, I would always start with 14 to 15 grains of that powder in these rounds.

Huntington's always seem to have a stock of the hard to find 30 Remington cases on hand. 30 Remington cases can be necked down to 25 Remington with no problems.
