I just found a set of RCBS 223 Scorpion dies. Just had to buy them.

Kinda of a cute and short 223 case (based on 30 Carbine)

Just wondering (not much on google) - anyone have any info.

I did find that Ken Bucklin - gunsmith developed it (1945...)

Anyone have reamer for this cartrigde or ....

Thanks

There is another name for the cartridge. I cannot remember it at the moment, even though I am sure I have a box of ammo in the caliber.

Mel Johnson created the 5.7 Spitfire based on the M-1 carbine case.

Have a Winchester carbine decked out with a 5.7 Johnson barrel(Paladin-'90 or so).
Wood was ruined in a house fire, metal was stored elsewhere.
Hope to find a Win stock someday to get-er back together.
Or it may just be one of those projects someone else has to finish.
Fun little rifle. Used 218 Bee jacketed projectiles in it.

I am still trying find if the RCBS dies I have (stamped 223 scorpion) are the same as 5.7 (or....)

I'll measure some of the formed cases and see how well they match 5.7 drawings.

I wonder if Larry Gobson knows?

The 5.7 Spitfire and .22 Scorpion are two different cartridges.

Here is an outstanding link showing the cartridges side by side:

Bowfin,

Incredible link. Thanks

Hopefully this weekend - I'll reform some cases. The few cases I do have - look more like the 5.7 than the Scorpion (article pictures only) - neck length and shoulder angle.

I'll post my results
