Went to a garage sale this morning which was advertised in our local paper, with reloading stuff.
Picked up a set of 9.3 x 74R dies for $10 along with a new set of Dillon 45acp dies for the same price, $10:lol:

Left, but turned around and wondered if any presses were for sale. Guy was taking a few others with him to look at lead shot. First guy chimed in for the #7.5's and the 5's. Nobody said anything else, so I said I would take the bag of magnum 6's, both bags of magnum 2's and a 25lb bag of #2 buck (said hard shot on the bag) and another of #4 buck.

$50 for all five bags!!!

Made my day, with the dies too.:D

I've had two great garage sale deals. Actually one was my wifes deal. She saw a new can of IMR4227 and asked the lady, "How much for this can of powder?" "Ten cents" was the reply. Sold!!! My own deal was a set of RCBS 30-06 dies marked $0.75. It had a stuck case in the size die, but so what! Sold!!!!

I can't beat 10cents for a pound, but about 4 years ago I went to an estate sale and got a (about) 2 gallon pickle jar (8 lbs) full of unknown powder for $2.00. Nobody knew what it was for sure and wouldn't touch it. So I asked about the guns the guy had and he was a .308 and 30.06 man. Took the powder home and compared to several different powders visually first. AFter careful load workups it turns out the powder matches up nicely with IMR4831. :bigsmyl2:

I gotta get back to reading those ads!

4831 is a pretty easy one to visually compare. those little round sticks are pretty distinctive...

Even if it wouldn't have matched up with any for sure, knowing what guns he shot, you can still load real low and work carefully up watching for pressure and using a crono. It should be posible to get a good "normal" power load and just mark it down what to load that powder to and what grain bullet used. If you change bullets it's simple to adjust charge to compensate. It definately would require very careful vigilence on workups.

I have had two amazing scores form craigslist. Back when I only had a lee single stage kit. I came across a large setup with 3 presses and well it set me back $400 but there was over $400 in powder alone, some jars of it i still haven't played with yet. The second was just last summer for $200 I got another full setup, 2 presses a Lyman 450 a lot of brass, an old Lyman 310 setup with several dies. and a few molds!

My 10 cent garage sale find was a single stage Lee press. The ram was a little rusty, but it cleaned up pretty easy. I use it with my Lee bullet sizing dies.

Oh, nice score indeed!

I literally haven't been to a single garage-sale in my entire 6 years in the US; perhaps it's time I started :)

AndyC, you're not officially a boolit caster until you hit a garage sale on the way to your wife's grandpa's funeral. Or any other garage sale you can find, just in case that widow forgot how much her husband's stuff was, especially that milk crate of heavy bars in back that no one wants to move...

A rite of passage like the CHLers' Wally-Walk - gotcha. I shall have to fix that forthwith ;)

The next time I have a Saturday to spare I'm going to cruise the garage sales looking for pewter.

My best find was actually at a pawn shop I got a Rock Chucker Press a set of RCBS 270 and 30-06 dies for 20 bucks. The guy didn't know what they were he asked 20 for the press I told him the dies should go with it and he tossed them in for free.

I picked up a Midway tumbler and a Lee Reloader press for $15 at a garage sale. I use the press for depriming so I don't gunk up my RC, and the old Midway tumbler is built better than the Frankford Arsenal tumbler that's at least 10 years newer.

Man, I didn't even consider that there might be reloading gear at garage sales. I will occasionally stop if it looks like there are tools. I will have to put the wife on alert for reloading gear this summer.

Estate auctions have been my best source. Around here when the old farmers die, and the kids have all gone "big city", the remains of the farm get auctioned. Sad, in a way, but I try to think of it as recycling. Best is when there are no guns advertised - lessens the competition. Top scores to date are 200 .30 Herrett cases, $5.00, (yep, I have that 'Tender barrel), and about 170 lbs. lead pipe and flashing, for $30.00 if I remember right. That one was in a pouring rain, the barnyard was ankle-deep mud, and I had to carry it about 150 yards to my truck, bit by bit because it had all just been piled in a corner of a shed. Maybe the price was so low because I was the only one dumb enough to go to all that effort.

Around my house the quakers/amish bid everything up, more than new prices often, even if they don't need it. They just get the stuff incase someone in the clan might want it. Garage sales are about the only possibility for a good buy.

I was looking for a lubrisizer and found and responded to an ad for reloading equipment. The guy hadn't reloaded on 20-30 years. I asked how much for everything, gave him his asking price of $200. I'm less than 6 months into reloading so all of this was a nice influx of equipment and really brought me up to speed, expecially since my primary calibers are 357 & 44 mag.

RCBS Lube-a-matic with dies for 357 & 44
RCBS Jr. Press (I like this press!)
Lyman Spartan Press
Lots of Brass
Many hundreds of cast an lubed Boolits for 44 mag & 357 mag
2 Lyman molds for 357 (One gas check & one not)
1 Lyman mold for 44 magnum
Lots of RCBS & Lyman dies
2 Powder measures (RCBS Uniflow & a Lyman)
Many thousand gas checks
10+ boxes of quality hollowpoint j-words in 357 & 44
A little Lino
A few powder tricklers, funnels, odds & ends

It was like Christmas... no, Better!!!

Stopped at an estate sale today. Most stuff was priced higher than a cat's back, but I did walk out with almost 3 pounds of solder for 3 bucks.

Going back Friday and see if the overpriced carpenter's square has sold. It was a nice one, but priced too high.

My best deals have been on Craigslist, bought a hardly used Lyman 20LB bottom pour pot, full of alloy, a new looking Thumblers tumbler ultra vibe 18 (full of new looking corn cob media and a few hundred 45acp cases) and a Lee 6 banger 200 grain 45 round flat point mold with handles for $120. The guy was selling his dad's gun stuff, he knew what it cost new since he looked it up online, but he figured it wasn't worth much used, and told me he would call me whenever he got to the rest of the boxes... I hope he calls soon. :)
