View Full Version : In search of 180gr .452 RNFP

I've got the urge to adjust some sights on my Ruger Vaqueros to a particular bullet. I do not want to be caught short if something should happen to my bullet supplier. So I would like to know who makes a 180gr .452 RNFP mold (hopefully a six cavity or better) with a similar nose profile as the 250gr, but achieves the weight loss by shortening the base. Thanks to all.

Is 180 grains a "deal breaker"?

If not, consider Lee's 200 grain RNFL. Available in a 6 cavity

Not necessarily, but I shoot Gunfighter and I like the way it gives me great point ability. The 250 was way too high and the 180 is just right. This particular bullet looks just like a 250 with some lube grooves missing.

Hi Forrest;

Lee makes a 200gr that fits your description (Model 90234) but I don't know of any molds that will get you all the way down to 180 gr. with the RNFP and simular Ogive measurements as your 250 grainers.

It is an idea that might be worth investigating. The balance would be most critical, however, especially for 50 plus yards. It is conceivable to have a large lube groove which will lengthen the boolit for mo'betta' stability. PRS is a member here and perhaps he can mail us some of his styled booits with around that weight spec to try. ... felix.

The bullets already exist. Just looking to find out who makes the mold so I can buy a back up. I have little time to cast right now, but maybe some day. I just don't want to get stuck i the breeze if the supplier drops off line.

If you could accept a 5-cavity, Tom at Accurate Molds can duplicate that bullet to your exact specs !

check magma engineering they do make a 160 that looks like that.
if for cowboy shooting its a hoot.
i got one real early and was using it in the cowboy games, my dad was accused of using a bb gun when he first run them through his rifle.

Bingo it looks like Magma's 170. I really like their beveled base 180gr design even better.
Noob question: I don't want to spend 11k for a casting machine. Do magma molds accept some sort of handle and play like regular molds?

they take thier handles.
last i looked they were the same price as a set of lymans.
you'd probably save money and have a bit better boolit by going to mountain molds and designing that same boolit with a bit bigger lube groove,and move the weight to the base band.
or you can call magma at 480-987-9008 they are on arizona time.
