I HAVE NOT attempted to swage .224 bullets for .223 but had a question.

Could zinc be used as a substitute to lead for swaging bullets?

it could if you had a press that had enough pressure.. Zinc is very hard.. and doesn't compress well..

Yeah Im pretty sure my Lyman Spartan won't handle it. I kind of knew that since zinc is hard it was going to be a problem thanks for replying.

The fast way to tell zinc wheel weights from lead wheel weight is to try and cut them with wire cutters. The wire cutters will easily cut into the lead, whereas they won't even make a dent in the zinc ones.

If you have anything with a galvanized coating on it (fence, etc)... that's ZINC. Very hard!

You can probably jam a zinc core into a point form die with enough pressure...

But how are you going to eject it? The tiny pin that ejects the bullet from the die will not be up to that task.
