Anyone using cast in LR-308? 30-30 style have to be seated really deep to prevent running into the lands. Can the 165SIL take the S/A and mag issues? Comments welcome, I really want to shoot a decent sized CB from this rifle.

Not sure what you are asking

if you are asking I have loaded the
RCBS
30-150- FN
30-165- SIL
30-180- SP
in a semi and a bolt 308
with my moulds it depends on the nose diamater on if they touch the lands
nose is
.300
.301 have to seat deep
.3015 have to seat deep

if they touch a little bit in the bolt gun it's not a problem
it also depends on the throat of your rifle

I have been trying new loads with dacron and have not experenced any leading

My Israeli Mauser in 308 Win likes 312-155Gr Lee sized to .311 and 14 Gr of Red Dot/Promo

I hope that helps :)

It's a DPMS 308 AR style, like an M1a but a tight throat. I prefer a FN GC mould, 160 gr or more. Lee and RD 30-30 work but need to be seated REALLY deep, the nose is too large(.306).

I suggest the RCBS 308-165-SIL at a minimum or the Lyman 311299 at a maximum. I have not used cast in a .308W AR but the 311299 is my odds on favorite for the M14/M1A, FN-FAL and G3 in that cartridge.

The RCBS 308-165-SIL looks good, if I can find one. My sizer is out of round, bbl has a .312 throat and rounds were barely jamming on the front band, the land marks aren't too bad. I think I'll try some of the LC 170 .310 I have, as well as the RD 165, to get cycling worked out first. Have to get a good sizer first. Of course the twist is 1/10 in both uppers but I'll leave the long one for jacketed.

my rcbs 165 silh boolit runs from 300 to 301 on the nose depending on which alloy i use.
300 is better in my ruger, but the armalite ar-30 likes the 301 just enough better i do it that way.
the harder alloy is also better as i rely on neck tension to keep it in place when chambering.
[can't believe i just said that as the harder alloy is actually a lower bhn than the soft one when waterdropped]
they are both sized to 310 on the body.
the 1895 win in 30-40 feeds similarly to an ar and i use the rcbs there also.
use good neck tension it will help i am running .003

Probably the best you could find for a 308 AR would be the Eagan MX3-30AR. Won't be easy to find one though, and the cherry I had broke. It's similar to the RCBS 165 silly-wet, but with a more tapered nose. A nose pour mold.

I have used the lyman 180 grain cast bullet with 29.2 grains H335 powder. I can't remember but I believe the load was from the RCBS Cast bullet handbook. I do know that this combination will cycle the action of a Norinco M305 (M-14 Clone) and the brass will fall about 10" from the action. It is also very, very accurate in all the 308s (Win 88, Savage 99, and 1903 Turk Mauser (small ring short action)) rebarrelled to 308.

Here's another that may work for you: http://accuratemolds.com/bullet_detail.php?bullet=31-175B-D.png Least it's available. Lubing a tapered bullet can be a pain, until you come to understand not all the grooves need filled just the lower one or two plus the groove above the GC.

[can't believe i just said that as the harder alloy is actually a lower bhn than the soft one when waterdropped] What? Xplain please!. I presume I will need BHN > 22 to cycle carbine GS. I was looking at that 31-175B-D but wondered if standard grooves would be better. I loaded some dummy 30-30 and found feed ramp scrapes but no engraving. Too many projects, so little range time.
