Has anyone used the rubbery muffin pans as an ingot mold? I know you can bake in them, but will they handle molten lead?

If you're talking about the silicone pans (and utensils) that are becoming so popular, then the answer is no. I've looked at it numerous times at various stores and IIRC, it all tops out at around 450-500 degrees.

FWIW, most kitchen utensils that aren't metal are typically marked with a heat rating. Either directly on the utensil, or on the label.

and the labels aren't any good for ingot molds either.
steel works good and lasts forever...
aluminum works too if you don't overheat it.

Yeah it worked, but what was bubbling up through the lead? I am also suprised he didn't use a cookie sheet under the mold in case of melt through.

Why?
When there are tin muffin pans begging for a new home, why?

I got an assortment of loaf pans at the Goodwill Store for a few bucks.
And Stainless Steel condiment cups (http://www.amazon.com/All-Purpose-Individual-Condiment-Commercial-Restaurant/dp/B000K9WTLO/ref=pd_sbs_k_1) make great ingots that keep my furnace level ideal.

This fool in the YouBoob video seemed more concerned he wasn't getting the face details.
Lucky it didn't boil out or pop the way it was bubbling.

These are my only surviving examples of what happens when the wife tries to throw out an old cookie mould. The ingots didn't stack very nicely and the mould itself was thin aluminum and melted through rather quickly.
BTW, the bubbling in the silicone mould was probably caused by the air escaping from the little facial details, much like the voids in my "cookies." Without mould heat to keep the metal flowing, he would have to address each of those individually before filling the rest of the mould. I still would never have tried it. I think he's lucky he didn't have a lava flow on his bench and feet.
