Hello everyone, I have been reloading for quite some time. As I have a source for a near infinite amount of brass, I have found out that bullets are now my biggest expense. I have been using Berry's plated bullets lately, but even they get expensive with the volume of shooting that I like to do. So I am planning on investing in a casting setup. My Springfield XD-40 is the hungriest of them all, so I plan on purchasing a .40 cal mold first. Do any of you guys(or girls) cast bullets for an XD? If so which molds have you had the best results with? I was thinking about a Lee 6-Cavity 401-175-TC. Any input?

I use the Lee 175 TC boolit in my XDM40.
Mine is a great casting mold.
I am using my generic Lyman #2 alloy and 8.5 gr Blue Dot.
I love the mold and load combo....dale

Dale,
Do you size them, or shoot as cast?

Any 40 mold that throws a TCFP should work. I have cast some for my friend to use in his XDTAC. One is the Lyman designed for the 38-40, 175grRNFP, the other is a 175grTCFP (Magma). I prefer the Lyman, no bevel base, very accurate. I size & lube, but I like the bullets to all be the same size for reloading, seems to amke things easier.

I size them to .401 and lube with NRA 50/50 lube.....dale

I find that if I load anything longer than a 1.1 OAL on this round in my XD40, I get some engagement with the rifling. Anyone else have that issue ?
