I picked up 1Lb. roll of solder from flea market , it's marked 95/5 wire solder, made by JW Harris Co. lead free, is it OK to use in the mix, I have another roll marked 97/tin 3/copper, this roll is not marked is the reason I ask. Thanks

Any numbering on the solder packaging? Could have copper, antimony, or silver in it. Would see if the manufacturer has details or MSDS.

95/5 = 95% Tin / 5% antimony

9-toes is right, it could have any of the three as a secondary metal.

However, it is such a small % that it really does not matter. You're going to use 1 or 2% of the solder in an alloy, so 1 or 2% of 5% is practically nothing.

Probably 5% Antimony OR Copper or a mix?

As the others have said, it could be anything. But all of the possibiliies are OK for what you want. You are in this for the Tin and at 95% Tin you are good to go.

You can't take the 5%? out anyway, so just use it as is!

Thats all I use to add tin to my alloy . and I 've had no issues

Could be silver, we use a lot of 96.5 SN/3.5AG for soldering. Melts 221C

Kind of what I was thanking, did not know for sure, for one dollar, I thought it was worth it. Thanks

I don't know so I will ask. "So you don't want silver in the mix"?

if you are hunting werewolves, it would be a desirable additive

I ALWAYS put some of the "silver solder" wire in every batch I make up to "boolit" grade alloy. Ya never know when wherewolves, zombies, wherebears, vampires or other baddies that take just a bit more killin may show up. "prepare for the worst and hope for the best" 10 ga

I don't know, I don't get to take it home, only time was scrapping of 200lbs of 63/37 sn/pb and I am set.

Actually a small amount of silver in the alloy isn't a bad thing. I will pretty much do the same thing that copper will (in the case of making boolits, I'm sure each metal has other specific traits that make one or the other better for other applications), that is harden the lead, but without making it brittle as can happen when adding too much antimony.

Would be a pretty poor werewolf if 5% silver could mess him up.
