I can pick up some 700x at a good price, can I use it for cast boolit load's?

It works well in a lot of calibers/cartridges, and there is a lot of data around in all the manuals. I use a lot of it in 38 special, 9mm and 45ACP. As a relatively fast powder you have to keep an eye on what you are doing namely double charges. In larger cases it is economical to use for lighter loads. Do some reading/searching. LLS

its good for plinker loads in rifles.I used quite a bit of it.I use 6-8g in 30-06 303 Brit 7.62 Russ. 8 Mauser etc.... with plainbase bullets.Works well in the 30-30 with 5g and the 3118.

I loaded up a whole whack of .44 mag with 165 gr. TC boolit over 10 grs. 700X and also a bunch of .303 with 129 gr. boolit over 10 grs. 700X.

Both shot quite well and were a bit more energetic than I had anticipated. I looked up similar cartridges and boolit weights using 700X since I did not have any info specifically for .44 mag with that light a boolit or .303 then used that info as a basis.

While there were no pressure signs, these did seem a bit hotter than I anticipated. So yes it works and seems to work well but start light and work up.

Pretty economical to shoot with such light charges.

I use 700X for 32auto, 380, 38spec, 357mag and 30-06. It's quite a versatile powder. I am using up a supply I have had from the 80's. I am also using Trail Boss in the same calibers with good result.

I bought the keg, 12lb's for $75.00
Now to start playing with my 303 Brit and my 45 Win Mag.
I also picked up a case of what I believe to be Remington Upland bird load's.There a picture of a dove on the box.He bought them because their an 8 star crimp for reloading.#8 shot.
I paid $35.00 for an opened case.
Did I do well?

700X
44 Magnum 6" revolver.
7.0 grains 700X under Lyman #429421 for about 1,000 fps with the 245 grain boolit.
Enough pressure there to burn relatively clean.

Been loading 3.1 grains under a 38 Special 148gr WC. Shoots accurate but is dirty. 700X is hard to meter at this low charge weight. Once the powder gets settled in the reservoir, I'm using a Dillon, it gets fairly consistent. So I keep the powder reservoir toped off above 5/8 full so the powder has lots of time to shake. Not to hard to keep up with powder fill as it takes a very long time to use it up at 3.1gr per drop.

Mine is left over from my trap shooting days. It would not be my first choice for revolvers but I had 8 pound of it on the shelf to dig into.

I'm using it in the 223, and a H&R 32 S&W revolver. The 32 takes 1.1grs per case. That is 6,363.64 rounds per pound of powder. The 223 load is 6grs max.
A very economical powder that measures decent.

700X's top end is abrupt, so remember that. In other words, don't push it. BE is friendlier in this regard. Switch to 231 for top loads in this speed range. Shotguns do not crowd the top end because of the large expansion ratio (not counting 410 here as a shotgun), so 700X is preferred for this application. ... felix

Zuke, Hello from S.W. Missouri, I too like 700x in a lot of different rifles & pistols. My old Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook (1976 edition) Lists starting load for .222 Rem., at 4.7 gr., max. load at 6.4. not much room for error. I'd be a bit leery of loading in 458 Win. Mag., too much documentation on fast powders in such a large case. Be careful & have fun, your trigger finger's going to get a lot of workout with that much powder. See ya, Phillip.

Sorry bout that(fast powder large case) I was thinking of a greatly reduced charge of a very slow powder in large cases, Oldtimers disease I guess. See ya, Phillip.

Think I'll try it in my Ross rifle in 303 brit.
But I'm waiting for my latest bullet mold to show up first,

It is an excellent cast bullet powder. I have used it in several calibers to include 38 special, 9mm, 40 S&W, 45 acp, and 44 mag. For many years my very favorite 38 special plinking/plunking/fun to shoot load has been 5.0 grns of 700-X behind the Lee 105 SWC. Fine accuracy from all my revolvers. Produces 1,100 to 1,150 fps from most 5-6 inch barreled handguns. Performance that basically duplicates full power 9mm cast bullet loads but without chasing down the empties. Works great as a flat shooting small game load as well if you are so inclined....
