Had to stop in at a little local gun show today ... picked up some 357 brass and just could not walk by some molds a gentleman had ... came home with a 429215 lyman , I belive it is the gas check design , not to bad a shape ... slight bit of pitting and surface rust ..... handles in good shape and should have mentioned a two holer .
What does the "AX" stand for ?
Curiosity has me going here , that and no discipline ... seems I can't just let those pesky molds lay there.....[smilie=b:
Now I will have to get a 44 later on ! .... [smilie=1:

I've beem told that it is to identify the cherry used to cut the mold.

thank you for the info there Perfessor .... will have to cast a few and see how they come out .
Paid about thirty five dollars for it ..... figured the handles at least were a good part of the value to be able to use in the future with any more lymans.

Good lightweight target bullet for 44 Special. If you're inclined, get yourself a Ruger flattop in 44 Special to shoot. The dimensions are good on them and they shoot really accurate right out of the box.

I use that bullet with 7.4 grains of Unique, it hits really good, better than my revover skills.

<<<<<< reliable 44 Special!

That's my favorite boolit to use in my levergun--and the levergun that I had that preceded it. Not much is written about it, but it's a pleasant, effective little gem of a boolit out of a rifle. I don't own a 44 mag handgun so I can't speak to that, but I can't believe that it would be too bad.

that bullet was the orignal marlin .44-40 it weighs about 215 gr. i have one i bought many years ago. i used it my ruger .44 carbines. it works nice for b-p loads in .44-40. there is no crimp grove so you have to get a good bite on it so it does not move in the case.

429215 is a great boolit for the .44magnum as long as you don't mind the cost of the gas checks. I use this boolit, gas checked, to clean out any minor bbl leading from other loads that maybe had poor boolit fit or were too soft for the application, etc. Last year after doing such a task with my 629 Classic DX 5 incher with a 4x Leupold EER scope, I shot a 5 shot group that measured 1.144" at 25 yds. All 5 holes touched each other. The load was 20g of 2400,Rem 2-1/2 primer,WW cases and OAL of 1.650. Velocity was 1234 fps and the SD was 20.

Just realized ... I have completed the process of becoming a devoted "caster of Boolits".
Aquired the mold before the gun .....:veryconfu

Something along the lines of "the cart before the horse" ?

I bought a .45 auto pistol because I had so much .45 ACP brass that got picked up at the range I couldn't afford to not to shoot it. I bought a SDB to load them on also.

Oh, ya think? :)

I didn't know about Lyman #429215's provenance as a Marlin 44-40 boolit. It does make sense, though--weight range is correct for the rifling twist, and the GC would be appropriate for the higher-pressure loadings that the 1894s were capable of. And the Win 1892s, for that matter.

At the price of that Ruger flattop, you can get your cart anywhere around that horse!

Lol. Good Luck,
