I just purchased a very nice Remington 511. The barrel code put the date of manufacture in Oct. 1945.
I was wondering how quickly after the war did domestic manufacturers get back to producing their "normal" firearms for the home domestic market?
How long did the government continue to purchase firearms after the war was won?
Companies like Remington could not have quit production of rifles for the armed forces overnight.
Could someone comment on that transition period?

I don't know about the guns but my Mom worked at Republic Avation in Evansville IN. She said the day Japan surrendered, they walked away from the production line and the partialy built P47s were scrapped.

Don't know about the changing of wartime production, but you have a good rifle there. Mine is very accurate and I enjoy shooting it a lot.

Anyone have any tips on slicking up the triggers on these fine old irons?
