Bob, where do you live? Growing up in Maine we picked rocks out of every field every spring. If you drive around and see rock walls bordering fields, you know from where they came.

Yup, you are in rock country, no doubt. It's the freeze/thaw cycle that brings them to the surface, or so they say.

It may have been snowing earlier this week but our hummingbirds just arrived so out came the feeder. Spring is here. I just planted my potatoes too. I'm an optimist.

Anyone that has ever lived or spent any time in New England will understand this one.
Stone walls came for two reasons - one was for setting out property lines and the other was "....what do you do with all the rocks in the field anyway"?
As the ground freezes, rocks are pushed to the surface. As farmers plowed their land in the spring, they hit rocks and had to get them out of there. They built these beautiful stone walls out of those field rocks.....along with the foundations and chimneys of their homes.
Got one growing in my driveway right now.

We have had very warm weather, but the forecast is for getting down to freezing Monday and Tuesday nights. Don't know if I'll plant anything but tomatoes this year.

Spring for the fruit trees and thistles sprung in January here, like it always does. The oaks started leafing out about two weeks ago. When the pecan trees begin to leaf out, I'll plant tomatoes.

Redbuds, pears, magnolias and dogwoods are blooming here, just about 1 month early. Normally that stuff is starting during turkey season which opens 4/15.

Took a step outside and it smelled like a French flower even though it was snowing this morning. Not really complaining though.

Took my wife and daughter fishing this weekend. We all got plenty of sunshine. Someone forgot the sunblock. The fish where almost jumping in the boat. The water temp is already 70 in the bay. That is a month early for here. I'm not complaining I sell air conditioners for a living, so bring it on. I just hope I poured enough 9's and 45's to last the summer.
