Wanted to share an upgrade that I made to my Powder COP dye.
How it's made:
1. Mill out the center of a lock ring so that it will slip over the outside of the thimble on the die.
2. Drill, tap and install, (2) 8x32 set screws in the die ring in order to secure it to the die
3. If you use a redding lock ring, it will have a set screw from the factory for securing the ring, drill a hole through the ring behind the set screw for attaching and securing the pointer.
4. Make the pointer from any type of stiff wire, clothes hanger works well. bend a 90 in it and sharpen the end on the inner side near the die as well as the under side to make a point.
5. Powder coat the tip with the color of your preference. When you adjust it move the pointer as so it will touch the white O-ring as it comes up. It will give precise readings.
6. Polish the plunger of the die with 600 grit compound to a mirror finish, keep it clean of oil (finger prints) and powder WILL NOT STICK TO IT!
Now, how well does it work? This was my third attempt and it works very well. On ball powders I can tell if the charge is 1.5 tenths to low or high. I have made this addition for 20 or so other folks, they report the same results.
