I recently read a thread where someone was pushing the Bator boolit to 2800 fps and getting 3/4 in. groups at 75 yds IIRRC. It inspired me to give the Bator another go in the 222. I cast several hundred and water dropped them Saturday then sized at .225 and lubed them with Carnuba Red Sunday. Today I loaded 20 of them and got about 1 in. at 50 yds. at about 2800 fps using SP primer. I used 18 gr. R7 for about 2800 fps (velocity of 55 gr. jacketed). The boolits disintegrated in soft, damp sandy loam soil. No leading and very clean bore.
Tried 8.5 gr. 4756 again, and again it did not shoot well at all. The bore was very dirty, but no leading. The boolits mushroomed very well. I will experiment more with the higher velocity and see what it will do.

Finally got to test some loads today. It was windy, but at 50 yds. across the tool box of my truck I was able to hit 1" dia. rocks in a manure pile with good consistency with both 3031 (16 gr.) and 4759 (16 gr.) by holding a couple inches into the wind. I tried some with 9 gr. 4756 and they were better than the 8.5 loading. Lyman shows 8.5 as max, but these 9 gr. loads seem mild. These are 55 gr.Bator boolits, GC, with Carnuba Red. Barrel after all 50 rounds was clean and shiny. I need to try them again without the wind on a bench, but I like how these did with the exception of the 4756 loads still aren't grouping very tight, I don't think. Too many variables today with the shooter being one of the greatest.

Thanks for sharing.

Business just kicked into overdrive and I have a tractor that I have to fix ASAP but I just water dropped a bunch of these and hope to load them up for groundhog destroyers.
