For those of you that have used one, what has been the best consistent accuracy you got out of one?
Thanks,
Jeff.:coffee:

With my 340 in 30-30 1" 50 yards, 172 gaschecked pointed bullet at 1700 fps, I had a 3x scope on it for a long time but now just wearing irons.

Most I have seen in 222 would shade an inch at 100 yards with the right ammo.

I just started shooting one I got from a board member here. Its in the 25 copperhead, 25/222. Was working up a load yesterday and shot a 1.75" 100 yard 10 shot group. Out of the ten 8 are in about an inch. The boolit is the Lyman 80gn Luverin rngc cast in 6/1 ww/lino quenched. Somewhere around 22gn of H-4895 chroned at 2340 fps. I only chronoed two shots and they had a 9 fps spread. This rifle has been custom stocked and rebarreld without the nut and is about as close to perfection for a fun boolit shooter as I could desire, and with the well figured maple stock is a good looker ta boot. Now if I could only remember who I got it from so I could thank him. This is one I have wanted to try for a long time. As luck would have it it came just as my Marlin 25/20 sold. That Marlin was also a fun and accurate rifle but not quite in a class with this 340 in 25/222.
As Mr. Whooters said when he developed it, flatter shooting than the parrent case at all ranges and delivering more energy than the 30/30 at all ranges past 50 yards.

I remember being quite enamored of the 25 Copperhead when I read about about 25 years ago. A very handsome round and I bet it would be a real fun shooter. Now you have me thinking of building one up!

Years ago, my dad had one in .222 that would shoot 100 yard groups just under one inch, but there are not too many rifles that won't shoot .222 good.

Finally got the scope mounted on my .222 340 today, but I'm in *gasp* New Jersey over Easter, and off to Virginia after that, so no shooting it to see what it will do until mid April. *Sigh*

I sneaked out for a few minutes today and fired another group with the 25/222 same load as before. Just a quicky 5 shot this time at 100 yards.
4 of the 5 were in about .75" and one was about 2" out,BUMMER!
I dont weigh or inspect any of these boolits as I want to shoot them just the way a customer would get them. This is kinda my quality control,I shoot them.
If I realy wanted to see what that little gun will do guess it wouldnt hurt to look em over a bit closer and even weigh at least enough for a group.
Just that it seams to take the fun out. If I can average 2" without any fuss over sorting or weighing I am happy even if I can get down to 1" with the fuss. I guess though when the bets are on!
Hope to post a pic of this little beauty soon.

Bullshop... The 25 Copperhead was designed by Texas gunwriter John Wooters in the mid-60. I have always thought it was a great idea. I have an article or two by Wooters from that period about the rifle and round. If you don't have it and want a copy send me a PM with your snail mail addy. I will make a copy and get it in the mail to you. I think I can find it without much problem.

Thanks but I have those. Bout got the ink wore off the pages though.
I would like to post some pics of the gun and some targets but think my puter is dieing. Its so slow I have threatend to put it out of its misery many times. Would that be domestic abuse?
The 340 savage and the 25 C H are a good match.
Last year I built a 257 roberts out of some scrounged parts and it shoots that Lyman/Luverin boolit realy good too. Just a doggon good boolit and it likes to get pushed hard and fast.

Picked up the 340 Savage Monday, cracked stock with an epoxy repair, but the wood is so figured that I sure won't replace it until it falls apart!
Now I need a scope base and rings to fit it....
I will load some ammo up over the weekend to see what she'll do....

Is the reciever drilled and tapped on the side? E-guns has cheap mounts $12 or something, had one on mine fer a while then sold the mount to my roomate for his 340.

I bought a 3/4" scope mount off a friend-you can't expect much for 5 bucks!
It's a start,I can find a 1" mount later.
