Just bought this tin alloy off ebay.

Looks to be promising!

Primarily tin at 82% with antimony, and copper.

what is this stuff?
could the unknown element in the alloy be arsenic?

Thanks guys!

just melted this down into smaller ingots and it fluxed and poured just fine. whatever the unknown stuff is it certainly is not zinc or any contaminate that hinders a good cast boolit. I hope to do a BHN test soon!

Here is a Brinell hardness test with a 10mm ball and 500 Kg. The large indentation is from the wrong scale (3000 kg), and the smaller indent is from a rockwell b to verify results. I used an Older Tinius Olsen machine to get results so I'm sure there close to accurate.

4.22 mm indentation (d)
10mm indentor (D)
500 kg load held for 30 sec (P)

I got 34 Bhn

Let me know how i did.

How much did you pay and how much did you get?

That's about $10 a pound for the tin - not a bad deal at all.
The nice thing is that you know exactly what's in there so you can make some repeatable alloys.
