I'm trying to repair a 1967 .308 Ishipor rifle. The safety is defective. Wondering where I can go to research what it's supposed to look like ( exploded diagrams, etc. ) so I get an idea on what to do. I'm not even sure all the parts are there.
Thanks, 725

If I may make a controversial if not outrageous suggestion? Loose the 'safety'!

It's down right dangerous when it works properly. Reason - it gets hooked off without you noticing and besides, there is no such thing as a safe 'cocked and locked' gun! Carry the gun with the bolt open at all times. It cannot fire accidentally in that condition. Not only that but it's quieter to slowly close the bolt than to slip off the safety. I won't allow anyone to use a safety when out with me. Bolt open carry only.

But since you asked on how to repair/restore it, here are some pics.

If you would like me to dismantle it and show you the insides, please feel free to ask and I'll do that for you. It's got a funny left hand intricate thread arrangement that one cannot easily replicate but you may be interested in seeing it anyway. Just let me know. :drinks:

I don't know if this will be helpful, but its a exploded parts diagram of a No.1 Mk. III, Should be able to click on the image to make it bigger.

Gun Parts has Ishapore safety parts. At least a few, anyway.

725, in what way is the safety defective? Well used Lee Enfield's tend to lose the detent on the safety catch so they just flop back down.

There's the detent with grooves on either side. That's where the wear takes place.

See what I meant about those threads? It's a multi-start spiral actually.

This is very helpful. Thanks. I don't seem to have the "doughnut shaped" washer like part. This thing came to me in a basket and I'm trying to find all the parts. Wouldn't bother me at all to lose the safety altogether. It locks up the bolt so that it will neither open or close, flops around without repeatable effect, and comes unscrewed faster than a cheap bottle of wine. Any tricks to removing all the internals or will I just find out as I disassemble?

Just that one screw in the side.

http://i388.photobucket.com/albums/oo327/303Guy/006-1.jpg It does need a special thin bladed screwdriver.

Thanks all. Thanks 303guy. I'm going to remove the safety. I rarely rely on them anyway. i keep an empty chamber until show time.

Looks like losing the safety will do the trick. Seems to function smoothly without it. I expect this to be a cast boolit shooter only, but you never know. I'll work it up slowly to see if it handles full power loads.
Thanks again. 725

725, the SMLE has one of the smoothest bolts of any rifles. Peter has an awful lot of knowledge and experience with them, that is why he chose his moniker (I kinda think).

Mine has some excessive headspace issues.

I tried paperpatching for it, but it cannot sustain the near full power loads as some can; plus, I think all of my "once-fired" military brass was initially through an oversized chamber like a machine gun. I take the once fired brass and Lee collet size the necks without full sizing the brass. After that, they get the Lee collet again.

I love shooting cast through it though! I can shoot all day and can get some looks from others on what I can hit using it with the Williams Peep Sight on the rear.
I like to use regular Lee 160's with Unique.
