Anyone casting this boolit care to give some feedback on it's performance? I'm looking for a straight forward boolit for the 45 Colt in this weight range. Also want a quality mold that will drop the right dia, I see they list it for .454", is that pretty accurate?

Sorry, I thought it was the rnfp one.

I bought one recently from a fellow member. I've cast some but haven't shot them yet, and with 1:30 they're weighing about 270 grains on the button. Measuring close to .456. It's a great looking bullet and a nice weight. I do wish my mold dropped a little smaller as I size at .451 for my New Vaquero (.451 throats and .450 grooves). Planning on Unique in the usual 8-9 grain range, maybe Red Dot at 6-6.5 grains, though Ken Waters' Pet Loads has a 17 gr. 2400 load I may try as well. Crimp groove to nose is about .380. Meplat about .320. Sturdy base band, and a pretty generous lube groove.

Exact same boolet I've been using in my wife's BH for the last 20+years. I size to .452 using an approximation of Lyman 2 alloy. Ken Water's load of 17.0 grs of 2400 is my plinking load. I don't think you will approach 270 grains (even when lubed) no matter which alloy you choose! RCBS, does however offer a 270 grain PB that is highly recommended by the gun scribes. I chose to pick up one by Mi-Hec, in a recent group buy, that had a HP option.[smilie=1:

In researching loads for this bullet one thing I've seen is there are apparently a couple of variations in the weight. Mine certainly weighs 270 with 1:30, as I weighed it just before posting, but looking for loads I've found references to them weighing less. Waters uses two Ohaus 45-255 bullets in his loads and one's listed at 255 grains and the other at 273 grains (the rcbs 270 SAA weighs about 285 grains!). Something to be aware of if your looking to buy one.

It's the boolit I've been using for the past 35 years in my BH. I get about .454 dropped, size to .452 and weigh in at 260grs with straight WW. Very accurate in my 7 1/2 inch Black Hawk and I got my last three mule deer with it. Loaded Federal cases with 18 grs of AA#9, stout loads but no pressure signs and will just about penetrate lengthwise in a mule deer. Nice deep lube groove too.

RCBS lists the boolit dia. @ .454", that is one of my concerns as I will also be shooting it from a NM BH. I would really hate to be sizing it down too far if I could help it.

I have to say mine is sizing down just fine. But there's a group buy proposed that I believe is the same bullet and might be available smaller. Also, Miha had some .452 saa molds available last time I looked, and that's another good bullet.

This is the same mold my older brother uses for his RBH 4-5/8" in .45 Colt. We shot many of those in the 70's when we cast, loaded, and shot together. Had many a good range trip with them. His dropped at .454 and we sized them to .452 and never had any leading problems with them either. They performed well at 100 yards.

I don't see why they wouldn't shoot just fine at .454. You may need to expand the neck a little more but should work with no problem in the BH.
