I was reorganizing my molds today and noticed that some of the Lyman molds have a 2 letter suffix after the mold number. For instance:

311291 EV This is a 2 cavity

358477 AV 2 cavity

357446 DW 4 cavity

I have a SAECO single cavity that is stamped 2FC after the mold number(017)

Does anyone know what these additional designations mean?

I don't have any answers but I've been wondering the same thing.

I've got a 287405LX.

On Lyman the additional letters are a code used to identify the cherry used to cut the mold.

The perfesser nailed it. It is the code of the cherry that made the mold and the manufacturer of the cherry. The ones you have to watch out for are the U (undersize) and O (oversize).
