hello;

anyone can explain why my cast bullets, 44 mag, 258 grain swc, sized to
.431" would shoot @3" left where jacketed bullet hit??

thanks for an input.

I don't find it unusual for some guns to shoot to different POI when changing bullets even when both are jacketed much less when one is and one isn't.

Why would you expect any two loads to have the same point of impact at 100 yards?
I can vary impact point by 12 or more inches with just a small powder charge difference.

The fact they are within 3 inches is actually quite nice.

If you are right-handed, i would suspect recoil, if it just goes left. I would also expect a drop in POI unless you have the same fps on CB and J-B.

I am often amazed by the change of POI from one boolit to another, even though the weight of the boolit and the rest of the load are similar. Just today I was shooting loads with the NOE311365, a spitzer and the Eagan MX2-30H, a conical boolit. Probably a 12" difference in the point of impact between the two despite the weights being close, and the rest of the load exactly the same.

Last Sunday I was trying to work up some new loads for my 7BR and the difference between two different alloys changed the POI by 4".

Vibration of barrel: think of a water hose whipping back and forth as it sprays your wife when she turned it on without grabbing it first. Not a great analogy, I know... but it was first thing came to mind. Seriously, end of barrel is moving in a orbital, or possibly horizontal path due to vibration. Where the muzzle is pointing at time of boolet exit is very likely to be different from one load to another.
