I went on a wounded warrior hunt at the Rolling R ranch in Harrison Arkansas this past weekend and had a blast. I used my 500 JRH BFR with 400gn cast boolit at 950 fps.
The first shot was probably 15 yds from a tree stand and I hit him exactly center in the head just below the eyes, so it went down and out without hitting anything important :( Then he took off running, I could see the first hit so I kept shooting till he was down. I knew he was a small one, but it looked like a great shot to take with the pistol and it should be tender, lol. Next time, I'll go for a shoulder.
My son shot a big Sow with my 30-06 at about 25yds, Win 150gn factory stuff, one shot behind the shoulder and she was down. He's had a great time letting me know his was bigger than mine.

One day I hope to be able to post such a fine happy event with my son but he is only 6 and I am well in my mid 60's so the race against time is on.
Very good pictures and two very happy hunters

Congrats on the pigs. You'll get hooked on that. We just did our pig hunt last weekend.

Glad to see you keeping the hunting tradition alive. I had my son shooting squirrels at age 6. We shot pheasants and quail together. He was a terrific sporting clays shooter at age 12. Then he just lost interest. He went deer hunting with me a couple of times. Sitting in a tree stand in the cold wasn't his idea of a good time. My generation of hunters has come to an end. I hope your son stays interested.

If you make a trip to New Mexico I can give you a spot. Not really close to Va.

The truly mindblowing thing is how the events of that single day will carry in his memory for the rest of his life. Most all of us have one or two that would'nt be traded for anything.

You know, that statement and the event - First Pigs for my Son and I - is so wonderful to read and know about. It is heart warming to say the least. :drinks: And inspiring.

My sons have flown the coup now but my young great-nephew is still out there and is very keen on hunting and savouring game (even if it is only rabbits and hares and the odd wild boarlet and feral goat). I introduced him to rabbit biltong and he loves it. (Biltong is salt cured dried meat with appropriate spices). He will be taken pig hunting very soon. (He's the fella in my avatar holding his first hare).

Conngrats, always good to have your son on any hunt. I was fortunate to be there for my son's first deer, will never forget it. Some of that country around Harrison can be pretty rough, born and raised not too far from there. Glad you had a good time. see ya, Phillip
