i found this in a box of stuff i bought from a guy. it's and ideal 458 504 mold, but i can;t find anything on the number. below the number is t. ballard. it's a hollow point 45cal gas checked rifle bullet, looks like the gould bullet. i think it is a custom mold by tom ballard. it's in very good condition. does this seem right? what might this be worth? anyone have any info?

thanks

The 500 series of cherries were dedicated to custom molds, but that's as much as I know. Some of the other bullets in the 500 series were the Harvey ProtX designs.

Okay, some more insight:

The 4 in the 458 is an overstamping of the original 3. As in 358 504, which was a Harvey Prot-x hollow point mold.

I would assume the name stamped below was the guy who re-cut the mold to the new cavity.

This can't be a predecessor to the Gould bullet, as the 358-504 was developed some 50 +/- years later. Could well be an improvement though.

Hope that helps.

I agree completely with NoZombies. In addition, it looks to be a gas check mould. Nice pics!

Wanna sell it? :)
