Looking to buy a new mold for 45 colt Rugers and 20in 92 rifle 250-300gr. The one I get best results with now is an older Lyman 452460GC. Like to find something similar but plain base. Ideas? or suggestions for something better? Looking for something that will be accurate beyond 100yds. Will probably be looking to push these pretty hard as a hunting round. I know this is a little vague, just looking for suggestions...:cbpour:

452664.
it definately has to work in the levergun, no matter what you get.
the revolver will shoot it acceptably.
a rnfp will do what you want.
i have shot long range levergun silhouette with the 452 boolit,i use it for deer huntiing too.
same boolit/alloy/load.

Thanks for the ideas, I sent a PM to MP molds on the Ruger only and the 270 SAA. I'll say this, the pictures of those brass molds are something to behold. WOW..I'll also take a look at the Lyman 452664 however I'm looking more towards a LFN type bullet as I haven't really gotten the performance I want from the RNFP's.

keep in mind the loaded oal when looking at boolits for a levergun.
i can assure you most swc,lfn,etc... are not made with a levergun in mind.
i use a 454424 in my 45 colt gun with good success but i have to crimp it over the driving band reducing the case capacity to a 45 special.

Understood, the 452460 is not a short bullet by any means either. OAL of my loads, as near as I can mike them, run 1.665 to 1.667 and these will chamber in the Rossi 92 okay.

some rossi's will feed some long boolits, i modified the lifter in my 44 mag to feed the 429421.
my browning 92 won't feed anything over 1.610 period.
my rossi 357 won't feed 38's unless i use a 180 gr boolit in it.
they are all a bit different in what they will and won't feed.

+1 on paying heed to what the levergun will feed. Select profile and nose length based upon what it needs and compromise with the handguns.

I highly recommend something like the 452664, but NOT Lyman. NOE just did a run on the 454-255-RF, and Accurate Molds has a very similar design with a slightly different nose length that may be even more suitable. You can get the Accurate mould in brass, aluminum, or steel in many different configurations, and very quickly. Both moulds are plain-based, not bevel-based designs which I believe most of us find preferable for a number of reasons.
