I have an older H&I Lyman die, that has the holes 180 degrees apart and would like to drill some more in so that I will get better lube fill. I have the equipment to do it, but I am just curious how to prevent burrs on the inside of the die when drilling through. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Pour lead in it and let it solidify. After drilling heat it up and the lead will melt out.

I have not had any problems with proper lube fill using the older dies. Maybe a heater is needed?

Using a heater, but the carnauba red misses a couple spots, requiring a quick twist and another stroke.

I would prefer to use a mild steel rod fitted to the bore of the die. I bored more holes in one once with out using a backer and removing the burrs took longer than fitting a rod backer would have taken. Maybe the lead would be strong enough. I had to take the temper out of the die to drill it, and then retemper it. Make sure all burrs are gone before hardening it.
