I have gotten myself a like new Marlin 1894C in 357. Now the question what would be a good cast boolit for this rifle? The main critters would be deer and hog. And how would the same round work in a S&W 686 4"?

this is a good one, RD's TLC359-190-RF
it's a little heavy for a revolver, but doable.

btw I have this 6 cav. mold... 3cav are PB and 3 cav. are GC

PLEASE NOTE....I do NOT shoot any small or medium frame revolvers!

My "HAMMER load" for my 1894C, and all my 357 revolvers is the same..........

NOE Plain base, 360-200-SWC (197gr / WDWW) sized .358, tumble lubed.
12gr. - 2400
Fed. 205-M small RIFLE primer
Any good cond. 357 brass.
With a good crimp from the LEE factory crimp die.
No sticking or anything even resembling it, or any other over pressure signs, in any of my guns.
I do not consider primer flattening to be a sign of over pressure, if you want to shoot true magnum loads, primers are going to flatten some.
Cycling in my unmodified 1894C is flawless.
Penetration is many FEET ;)

Beautiful rifle. I had one and shot hundreds of hogs with it using a 200gr SSK designed boolit from an old NEI mold. I ended up giving it to my nephew when he graduated from high school (actually after shooting 4 sheep he wouldn't give it back to me). He used it on a damage control hunt I took him on to the forbidden Island of Niihau where he shot 37 hogs on the first day alone.

My load was 14.0 of 296 behind the 200gr NEI boolit primed with Rem Small Rifle primers (no you don't need a rifle primer but the copper color let me know at a glance they were for my rifle).

If that has "Ballard Rifling" it will work pretty well with the 357429 over 2400. Start at 12gr and work up .5gr at a time.

If its a microgroove gun, try the Saeco #354 (185gr GC) or the NOE .360-180 in GC form. The NOE is similar to the Saeco but with a wider meplat. Try the same 12gr 2400 and work up, or switch to H110 with magnum small rifle primers and start around 14gr and work up. This latter load might be a bit snorty for a revolver.
