It was hard but I walked away from a like new H&R 1871 38-55 Target Rifle for $319.00. I'd love to have it but I started thinking about dies cases and molds.

There is only one fault with the H&R 38-55 Target Model barrel. Green Mountain based on directive from H&R cut the chamber for 375 jacket rounds. These are the rounds that the factory test fired with.

Ream the chamber out to 401 and you will be able to shoot 380+ diameter lead rounds with very fine accuracy with cases that are not pregnant. Any gunsmith with the correct reamer will do it for around $25. A nationally recognized 38-55 gun crank and gunsmith, since deceased, did mine
