Anyone have a starting load suggestion for me...
Rifle - Whitney Rolling Block (1-18 twist)
Boolit - Hoch 310 grain silhouette

Want to shoot the puppies w/smokeless. Found lots of data for 250-265 grain slugs but ont the bigger stuff.

Have Unique, 2400, 4198, 3031 & 4756

Thanks

Nitro - I'm looking in the Lee manual and it lists for the 335 grain #378674 - 22 grs of 4198 for 1320 fps and 24 grains for 1531 fps. IMR powder, by the way. It also lists for 3031 - 26.5 grains for 1301 fps and 29 grains for 1631 fps. The overall length is 2.900. Win brass and Rem 9 1/2 primers. That's all I got. enjoy and use with caution. I haven't used any of this data personally. Mike

4198 is your powder. I shoot the 375 win and this is the most forgiving and accurate powder for this callaber. good luck with the big loads I perfer the 270 gr bullets

Another "+1" on the IMR4198. I load 19.8 gr under a plain-base NEI that casts 304 gr. from my 50/50 PB/WW alloy. Load pretty much duplicates BP ballistics in my Uberti Highwall and prints 3"-3 1/2" groups @ 200M...if I do my part.

Had an opportunity to get to the range last week and shoot some loads i'd made up over winter.

Not having any published data I tried 18.0 grs of IMR-4198.

It was a windy day with 30 MPH gusts crossing at about 60 degrees. Guess the Hoch 310's will buck the wind! Could definitely see the wobble where they haven't fully stabilized.

My Whitney is 1880's vintage so I will approach 20 grains with caution.

Will move out to 200 yd target bank next trip.

Thanks to all for your input.
