When it comes to buying pewter, what is a normal price to pay per pound? I know the older pewter is 85/10/5 and the newer stuff is 95/5. When looking on places like ebay, I have no idea what to consider a good buy.

I limit myself to $4 a pound for hallmarked modern pewter, but usually pay far less.

Shipping on eBay usually kills the deal.

I can get the glass bottomed beer mugs for about $2 each. They yield from 1/2 to 3/4 lbs per mug.

Also be very careful on eBay. A lot of the "pewter" there isn't.

Thanks guys. It's hard to tell with buying on ebay what you will end up with as far as pounds but most of what I see looks to be a bit expensive for what you get.

Glass bottom mugs are generally about 10 ounces net. Bowls reach a pound at about 7 inches in diameter. Call small vases, sugars and creamers at about 4-6 ounces and each. Candlesticks are usually weighted, don't bother. You can always ask the seller how much it weighs through eBay's message system if something is close to your limit and you need a weight to be sure. Your best bet is to find the occasional large diameter bowl. Place your bid at the price you set and if it doesn't come home, there will be another along shortly.
