I was at a gun show in Kendrick, Idaho this morning, and there was a really interesting display on one of the tables.

A man, Wally Studer from St. Maries, Idaho had hand made a 20mm/80 caliber Sharps.

Beautiful work in Stainless and walnut!

Boolit for which he made the mold, is 1400gr, ahead of about 280gr of black powder.

The rifle is said to be a 1 1/2 replica of a 50/70 Sharps and weighs about 35lbs.

Wally makes the brass by hand also.

The fellow at the table, a friend of Wally's is shown shooting the rifle and that is also something. :veryconfu

The rifle is so heavy, the fellow says it is really not that bad to shoot. Well maybe?!?!

OK I want to change my pick from a sharp stick for defense against Grizzlies to the 20mm/80 caliber Sharps. The muzzle blast alone should turn him around. Hey Jammer got any scientific data for that one?? :-}

Makes me wonder ------ After your shoulder dislocates, your retinas detach, and your aorta rips, are you still having fun? Given the chance, I'd probably take a shot with it, though. Love to see craftsmen and their works.

There is a show in Moscow, Ideeeeeho next week, and maybe the fellow that brought it will also be there.

I ask him if it was on the net, and he said they hadn't posted it but had heard it was posted.

I did a SHORT search, and found where it had ?? been, but couldn't open any images.

The guy I spoke with was pictured in the video clip being played, and he said that he and the builder continued to shoot the rifle but for everyone else it was pretty much a one shot thing.

I suspect, that the question would not be how far it would penetrate in a big critter, but through how many critters would it penetrate.

I did not handle the rifle, but from the top side it appeared that the work was very well done.

Because of the weight, the recoil did not appear to be really fast and there was not a lot of muzzle rise. However, the rearward movement was considerable.

The rifle is so heavy, that it is only shown being shot from a rest.

This isn't the 20mm/80 CDOC referenced, but there is a thread on another forum with a pretty good time line of the build starting last fall with pics for a 20mm muzzleloader. The guy proofed it with a 4.2 oz slug. There are also links in his post of the proofing video which was rather enlightening.
