Anyone using a Rapine mould?
I just picked up a .375/265 GC from Ray at his shop. He seems like a very knowledgeable man; a machinist/blacksmith/gunsmith. I can't wait to try this bullet out in my Marlin CB!

I have 4 of his moulds and really like them. I also have a couple bottles of his mould prep and use it on all of my moulds. I to would like to know if he is still in business?

+1 for the Rapine Mould Prep! The stuff works. I found this address for Rapine:

Rapine Bullet Mould Mfg. Co. 9503 Landis Lane, East Greenville, PA 18041 Phone (215) 679-5413 Fax (215) 679-6442 http: www.bulletmoulds.com

The web address did not work.

http://www.ssfirearms.com/specials.htm has a few Rapines on sale for $70 but I've no idea how current that list is.

Naturally they don't have the 504425 or similar. :(

I have that same mould for my 336 CB. I size it .379 and sent it on its accurate way with a healthy charge of IMR 3031.

Yes, that's him and he's still in business. That is his address, but he's no longer on the web.
I believe his name is Ellsworth Rapine, but he goes by "Ray". I read some old newspaper articles about him that were hanging on his office wall, some were 30 years old. They describe a man very dedicated to his craft, and he's not limited to one dicipline. I asked him if he could ream a couple of Blackhawk cylinders for me, he said "Heck, I make cylinders. I suppose I could ream 'em."
I'll try this mould out on Sunday. Since his shop is right around the corner, I'll have to get a .41 mag mould, a .38, a .30-30... [smilie=1:

homefront - does he have moulds in stock in pretty good variety? If you wouldn't mind too much, would you check to see if he has anything .504-.508 in a 425 grain or more conical mould? I would be very interested. TIA

I tried the listed phone - out of service.

The last time I heard anything about Rapine it was said that he was no longer dealing with Buffalo Arms. He told a friend of mine to inform Buffalo that he was still alive and making moulds but they (Buffalo) weren't getting any. At 75 years of age I guess he can call the shots any way he wants.
His moulds produce fine bullets but from personal experience I can attest to the fact that the mould prep is almost impossible to remove from kitchen linoleum. My wife will second that tidbit of information. Be careful where you use it.

...............I have a couple Rapine moulds for 58 cal's and they're nice moulds. Have captive base plugs for those designs with hollow bases. I'd heard a couple years ago he'd gone out of business. Then I heard he just no longer had a website. I guess some folks equated no website with out of business?

Steelbanger,

What does your barrel slug to?

Underclocked,

I don't know what a conical mould looks like, but he's got what look like 2 giant RNFP bullets: a .504425 (solid) and a .504400 HB. These are called "For White or Knight rifle" in his catalogue. If you could be more specific I'll ask him.

I have to tell you guys, the visit to his shop has me very curious about blackpowder rifles...I need to add an extra day to my week so I can persue that, too. :drinks:

homefront,

My 38-55 CB barrel slugs .379. I originally bought the 379 sizer with the intention of opening it a few thousandths. Since the rifle produces small groups with bullets at .379 I decided to leave everything as is. Plus, the chamber may not accept a round loaded with a .381 bullet since it is on the tight side. I'm happy the way it is now so no changes are in store.
