I have a T/C Contender Super 14" in this caliber...anyone cast for it? Is the twist OK for cast boolits? I was considering ordering a 120 gr GC mold for it. Input for this one, or would I be better off with J bullets?

Thanks...Shooter

You can shoot cast in nearly anything, but the very fast twist and short neck of the cartridge argue for:

Bullets with a short bearing surface, or a short bearing surface and a long bore riding nose, and,

moderate velocities, rather than full power loads, for best accuracy. I shoot a discontinued Lee 7mm mould myself.

I absolutely LOVE my NOE 7mm Hunter boolit in that round. I too have a TC super 14, and was hoping to wack a deer with it this year, but no luck.

I do smack the 200M rams with it at the silouette club I visited.

I'm thinking my 7mm Hunter is 150gr or so.

I sent my barrel to Gary Reeder and had it rechambered and muzzle braked to 7mm GNR. Very accurate and powerful. I have killed some big pigs with it.

I'm shooting a Lee .285-130 at about 1350 fps with no GC. Nice plinking load and no leading. Using straight WW.

I have a 14" with a muzzle tamer. I shoot from 130 to 170gr GC cast in mine. No problem with accuracy. I use both reformed 30-30 and actual 7-30 brass. It's on par with the accuracy I get from my 7mm TCU. Both angle of deer at 100 yds. That means at least a 4" group or better.

Thanks guys, I will do a little research and order a mold. Gary Reeder is here in my town of Flagstaff. I have had him do some work for me too.

My 7-30 barrel dotes on FACTORY ammo. I've tried LOTS of handloads, but none are as accurate as Factory. I have used the Lee 135 on a couple deer with satifying results though. The mold is called the "soup can", it's gas checked. I believe I got mine from Midsouth. Look in the special mold section. I've used several molds in my 14" contender 7-30 with varying successes. YOU have to try them in your gun to see IF YOUR barrel likes them.
