I bought two rifles from a friend. An Ishapore 2A1 in 7.62 and a Turk Mauser in 8MM. Both are sporterized and seem to shoot fairly well. I didn't think $100 each was too bad.

A hundred dollars today may be two hundred tomorrow. I had an Enfield I sold for $75.00 back in the late eighties that would easly sell for a couple hundred today.

That's a good price on today's market. They should be a couple of shooters.

That first one sure looks like a 303 brit. But the I'm a newb when it comes to the variety and calibers of old military stuff.

The Ishapore Arsenal (India) 2A and 2A1 rifles were developed as a stopgap when the Indian Army was switching to the FAL from .303 Brit Enfields. As they were having problems with the Chinese on their border, they wanted sufficient 7.62 NATO rifles available. The Ishapore Arsenal had been making No1 Mark III rifles since before WW II, so they redesigned the No. 1 Mark III as a 7.62 NATO rifle. This allowed them to use the machinery and a number of the parts which they already had, while fielding rifles in the new caliber. And that is why the Ishapore 2A and 2A1 look like the No. 1 Mark III. But they were designed and built to NATO standards for the 7.62 as far as pressure of the proof loads.

The one I have is a Jungle Carbine. Ammo was obtained at the same time. Two different loads, both having the UN circle, from India. Both are very mild. BOTH cases' datum lengthen by a large amount when fired, so much so they cannot be resized back to commercial from military. ... felix

I have a lovely Ishapore No1 in 7.62, the nicest one I have ever seen. After I bought it and checked it out I found out why it was so nice. It had HUGE head space. Field gage plus another 0.038". I am lucky as I have a very good gun smith with in driving distance that loves mil surps and he shimmed the bolt head and made it eject properly. I bought the rifle 12 years ago for $140 and the repair cost me another $140 back then but I love the rifle so it was worth it to me.

The guy did such a nice job you can't tell he did anything to the rifle.
