i picked up a navy arms siamese mauser in 45/70. nice overall, but i don;t like the rear sight. it has a williams acjustable buckhorn about 6" down the 18" barrel. not much sight radius and not easy to see. any suggestions for low light shooting? an appeture sight or d/t for a scope? and what appeture sight would fit this?

My Siamese sporter wears a scope, but any of the receiver sights made for a 98 Mauser should work. I prefer the older steel Lymans and Redfields to the aluminum Williams sights.

Lyman's SMJ is the best aperture, especially if you can find one of the olde steel bases ones.

I tried all different sorts of sights on my Siamese Mauser 450-400-70 (45-70 but please allow me my hallucinations:)) and found the Lyamn SMJ receiver sight to be very good. However my older eyes have dictated scopes these days for the most part so I went with a 2 1/2 Leupold compact on an older Redfield base. The base has an aperture flip up rear sight for back up.....best of both worlds:drinks:
