250-255gr gc cast bullets in 348 Winchester need some accuracy load suggestions. Any and all experiences welcome. So far using loads from old manuals I can at best get 4" groups at 100yds, same rifles getting <2" groups with Hornady 200gr jacketed bullets, some 3 shot 1" groups once and awhile. thanks! These loads are for Winchester 71's, giving up for the time being on my browning 71 carbine and cast loads, will work on that after I get the original 71's shooting cast well.

How careful are you in culling the boolits?

I've had good results from a B-71 using 47.0 gr IMR 4064 and a heavyweight CBE mould (274 gr checked and lubed). I use a Lee FCD to crimp the bullet in position in the no throat chamber. I dont test at 100 with open sights any more as my eyesight isn't up to it, but at 50 this load shoots cloverleafs. Velocity is around 2150 fps.

AR 2209 (H-4350) works so well with 250gr jacketed that I'll try this next time I load heavy cast bullets for the 348.

For half a dozen seasons many decades ago I used the Winchester 71 for an elk rifle. Mine had a receiver sight when I got it and I settled on shooting the good NEI (Walt era) 235gr bullet cast in WW and oven heat-treated. I cast them as two part bullets with a 20-1 nose.
Anyway- 60 gr H-4831 worked well.

Good luck trying different loads. The Winchester M-71 is one of those "if I could have just one rifle...." rifles.

You might also wanna check that forearm end cap fit? They talk as it helps if it's rubbing the barrel. I have a second year 71 and it was fine, but the cast boolits I tried were great, but are gone and I have no mold to even say what it was? I got them from a buddy who's past on.
