Also do a search on the 22 Hornet as there have been lots of discusions and articles in "Cast Pics".

I have had a Hornet for a few years now and it is becoming my favorite rifle lately, it has made shooting a lot more fun.

cummins, what do you have for a Hornet? I have a 50's vintage Savage 340, an old bolt action, magazine fed repeater. Nice old rifle.

I've been reloading mine and the best powder from everything I've read was Hodgdon Lil'Gun. Having loaded it myself, I was so impressed with Lil'Gun that I haven't tried anything else with j-words. Also, using a small pistol primer, not a small rifle, helped accuracy. The case is so small, a rifle or magnum primer blasts everything out of the case before it gets lit.

Lately, I've been casting Lee Bator boolits for it, from a 95-2.5-2.5 alloy, aka, Lyman #2 cut 50/50 with straight lead. So far I've just started using these over a charge of 2400, been getting 1 inch groups at 50 yards, and that's with just my first set of trials, still have load development to do.

Lil Gun is the powder with J-bullets sure enough, but with cast I've gotten my best groups with AA-1680. Be sure and try small pistol primers with all loads.

I have an old stevens 322,,in the hornet. Very accurate with h-4227,and the 225438 lyman,,small pistol primer is critical for best accuracy.Mine shoots very well up to about 2350-2400 f.p.s.,,any more speed and it will start shooting a little ragged....
