I just won a mold on Ebay that noone else had bid on. It's a Saeco .243 and wondered if anyone had used this one. Kind of looks like a mini-version of the RCBS silhouette I have that shoots so good in the 30-06's. Here's a pic. Supposed to be 87 grains.

Feels like I am talking to my invisible friend here but today I got my answer as to does this thing shoot. Yes it do! I used Bullshop Jr's recipe of 12-14 gr 2400 ( I used 12.6gr.) and they are going inside an inch at 50 yds. with one group under 3/4". Was really fun. I tried another load of 29.5 gr. H4895 and got three in a nice cluster and then the others hit different points of aim. The stock screw had come loose and i ran out of those so will try this again. Anyway, that's all I have to say about that.

Didn't see this thread--I should shake my head, the eyes must be stuck (again).

I've had very good luck with the 243 and cast boolits. I use the RCBS 95 SP (which resembles your SAECO a bit) and 12.0 grains of 2400 hovers near 1" at 100 yards pretty reliably. These loads assassinate rats right well, too.

I just sighted in my 7mm Rem Mag: At 25 yds, prior to using it at 100. I started with a 154 gr. spire point and had it set at 3 inches high, making a ragged hole. I then went to a Lyman 135 gr.gc ( casts 140 gr with Lyman #2 alloy) and a starting load 71.1 grs of Accurate 5744, producing about 1600 plus fps. I had fired about 25 jacketed rounds sighting in the scope, so the bbl was fairly hot when I shot the first two cast rounds. They hit dead on (3 inches low) about 1/4 of an inch apart. The next three rounds were flyers, about 2 1/2 to 3 inches to the left. When I repeated the the next five rounds, the same thing happened. First two dead on, 3 inches low, nearly touching, the last three out to the left about 2-3 inches. I have an old 1899 Savage in 30-30, that prints lead at about 1 1/2 to 2 inches at 100 yds with the same alloy. Any one have a suggestion, Mike

..............Hey Mike. I think this must be a mis-print :-):

".................71.1 grs of Accurate 5744, producing about 1600 plus fps.

Part of your problem with the cast rounds could be:

"I had fired about 25 jacketed rounds sighting in the scope, so the bbl was fairly hot when I shot the first two cast rounds."

Usually (maybe NOT allways) cast doesn't fare as well being shot from a copper fouled barrel as one that's not. Try it again after cleaning out the jacket fouling. Fire 2-3 cast foulers then shoot for group and see what happens.

I'll keep you posted. The Lyman 245498 doesn't seem to shoot real good. Looks like too much unsupported nose. I may try "Beagling" the nose section & see. I picked up a Lyman 245496 and will see how these shoot. It's always interesting to try a new caliber. Another poster said he had good luck with RX-7 too so I'll give that a try. Thanks for the input DA.

Saeco 243

Do you know if this mold is tapered in the foreward section, i.e., the bore riding area?
