I have 4 boolits here now for the .475 and decided to measure lube capacity by weight with LBT Blue soft.

44man's 1.1gr
400gr Lee .5gr (!)
480640 Mihec 1.2gr
Mellonhead's 400gr 1.8gr
My 44man "copy" 1.6gr

You can reduce but you can't add. [smilie=l:

BTW, that is with lube also in the lower crimp groove on the Lee!

No wonder everyone I have heard of trying the LEE gets a bunch of leading!!

While I was casting with my Mihec mold, I also made some of the Lee boolits to try with LLA on them. They were VERY accurate until leading set in at about 15rds.

I think I'm going to try the Ranch Dog dip. They are surely big enough to get ahold of.

Edited first post to add lube capacity of my 44man "copy", that isn't much of a copy.

I agree that bullet doesnt have much lube capasity but Ive shot the snot out of it in my linebaughs and FA guns and have never got leading and have another buddy whos done the same and never gets leading. Keep in mind though that these are rugers. there guns that were built right and have good barrels.

I think Lee has changed this boolit. I have seen pics of an older version that actually has some lube grooves.

My LBT has .8 grains lube. Why do you want all that lube?

Is your LBT gas checked?

Also, I was shooting for less lube. This is just what it came out to be. The drawing predicted 1.3gr and it has 1.6gr capacity.

The Lee only has .5 with the lube grooves full too. And it leads.

The one boolit for my .475 that does not shoot good has small GG's. Other then that it is the same as the boolit that shoots lights out.
I love lube and do not think there is ever too much.
I shoot the Lee boolit with Felix and it is good. NEVER with LLA. It will start good but go to pot fast.
I don't care what anyone thinks, Alox is the worst boolit lube ever. I cringe with tumble lubing! :veryconfu
Lube groove position is also a factor. I find 2 or 3 grooves better then 1. The Lee has many and really does work with a good lube.
I get confused with rifle shooters that use a boolit with many grooves and say to just lube one groove.

I sure agree with you on tumble lube. I dont have much use for it.

I use it as "insurance" on some of my conventional lubed boolits. It seems like a good idea as the charges I load sometimes exceed the book. Of course the experiment is ongoing. I used it on my 480 with the Mihec HP's. They were lubed with Super Moly, then tumbled in a bit of Alox. I didn't get any leading even with 475 level loads.

That's good to know because sometimes I forget and fill the crimp grooves. :veryconfu
