Has anyone here shot cast boolits through full auto subguns? A freind and I were thinking his Mac needed some lead through it. Is this feasible or a bad idea due to heat and leading?

Thanks in advance,

One day at a little private ranch I used to be able to attend a member brought his Thompson. A real one. He brought two three pound coffee cans of his handloads with the Lyman 452374s that he cast.

We shot both cans dry and the sub gun ate 'em all with a hitch. They shot pretty well, too.

Welcome to the forum.

Many years ago I had a MAC-10 .45 acp.

The only way I could afford to shoot it at all was with cast. Worked fine.

Two big problems. I lost at least 50% of the cases it ejected. Of the cases I recovered 50% of them were so bulged at the base I couldn't resize them.

Be sure your class 3 doesn't bulge the case heads. If it does, swap it for one that doesn't.

Bro in law has a 9mm sub gun. Last time we had it out, we went thru almost 900 rounds of hand loads. I cast the bullets out of straight wheel weights (water quenched). It didn't even hiccup. :brokenima

Short answer; load'em up, blast away!!!!!!!!!:guntootsmiley:

I know of a M2 30 carbine that has no problems with 113gr GC bullets from a H&G 250 mold.

I've shot cast out of a H&K MP5 in .40S&W with no problem at all.

Not a class-3, but my AK chews through a magazine-dump of cast without even a flinch. If you treat it the same as you would any other cast load work-up and development, it should run fine.

Almost bought a Mac , many years ago, but the LEO wouldn't sign off on it. When I went to look at it, I brought some 45 ammo I had loaded for my semi-auto thompson. Worked fine.

Gun with suppressor was $395 at that time!!!

Thanks to all that replied. Its a 9mm. So it sounds like we are going to have alot of fun this summer. Rockrat, you cant even get a good suppressor for 395 anymore. Yikes.....

I fired them, but with other folks ammo. LOTS of fun, but other than that, no real interest in them. I go through enough pistol ammo without casting and loading for a buzz gun, let alone going through the hoops and considerable expense of owning one
