View Full Version : Radford Army Ammunition Plant
Still plenty of Red Dot floating around here from that plant. I drove down today to do a deal with a fellow caster in Radford & thought I'd run out Rt. 114 for a couple pictures to share.
Making the turn off Rt.11 onto Rt.114.

I'm puzzled what possible use Red Dot could be for the military. Maybe .38 Spl or 9mm
ammo I think that military .45 is loaded with Bullseye, but maybe not any more. Is this
a working facility? I thought Lake City was the last military ammo factory.

The jettison cartridges used to jettison external stores on helicopters and to assist in positive releasing of bombs are loaded with Red Dot. I've "demilled" these before and it's Red Dot complete with the red dots./beagle

Radford Arsenal is where the old Hercules production from Kenivil NJ wound up.

Radford has some cool factor. But I've seen Saturn 5 rocket motors, enough to get to the moon twice more.

A long time ago, while I was an OCS candidate at Aberdeen Proving Ground, our company had to go, by bus, to Radford Arsenal to be in a retirement parade for a retiring commanding general. We didn't get to see any of the place, but as I recall, it was in a nice, scenic location. These are the first views I've seen of that place since then. I don't even remember who the general was. That was in 1967.

Yes Jim I know. I'm in your area to deal bullets every couple months. I need to come over sometime, dirty all your guns, shoot all your ammo & eat all your bolonga.

Sure 'nough.
