Hey Guys, Anyone have any thoughts on the argentine mountian carbine?
Any idea on what one would cost. They seem to be in pretty short supply.
I think there also called an engineers carbine. These are the 1909 model.
Thanks for any info.

I have seen a couple of them at gunshows.
I have never seen the engineers or mountain carbine.
Mine thinks it is a target rifle.
Bought it from a friend about ten years ago for two hundred. Included was ten boxes of once fired Norma brass.
Ain't gonna ever see buys like that now.
I would watch the auction sites and jump on one hard when you find one.
Mine will be in the last half dozen guns I get rid of.
There is very little interest in those old milsurps in my neck of the woods.
The 09 Argentines are right at the top of the quality pyramid.

Good luck finding one.

Never had one, but everything I've heard about the Argentine Mausers is that they are excellent rifles. A guy I work with here, who is a knowlegeable gun enthusiast, recently bought a sporterized one in .30-06 and he has just raved about how accurate it is.

Is it really a .30-06 (new .30 caliber barrel chambered for .30-06), or is it one of the 7.65 1909s with the chamber re-cut to .30-06? These can also be tack drivers - with the right size bullet/boolit. But .308s are really too small for the bore.

Have one. Great rifle and great quality and workmanship. Probably my favorite milsurp. Haven't seen any in a long time. Got mine from a guy cruising a gun show about 8-10 yrs ago. Almost broke my wrist getting the $250 out of my pocket!

I haven't seen it but I was aware of the ones Sears or somebody sporterized in '06 and left the .311 military barrels on. From the accuracy he described with factory ammo, it must have the correct bore size.

I just saw a 1909 Argentine Carbine at a show last weekend in really nice condition. It was being offered at $450. If I would have been able to afford it, I'd have it now. The going price in my area has been typically at $600. It seems to be a pretty healthy price but then again, I see rifles for sale that I paid 25% of their asking price when I purchased them new.

This is the cavalry carbine with 21.5" barrel. Unsolicited opinion of this offering: Nice overall condition. If all the wood is as decent as what's pictured I'd grade it at a low VG condition. Bolt number matches. Whether the price is to your liking you'll have to decide. I think maybe it's ok considering they don't show up all that much anymore. I've heard of no negative reports on the Argentine-made versus DWM. Of course DWM is, IMO, one of the two premier military Mauser makers in the history of humanity with the predecessor company Ludwig Loewe being A-No.1.

The mountain carbine m/1909 is a short version of the m/1909 long rifle except the mountain carbine has a bent bolt. The mountain carbine also has a 21.5" barrel. It looks more similar to the FN Model 24.

My sporterized 1891 with a like new barrel shoots very well with the Remington 150gr .308" bullets. Usually about 2 to 3 inches at 100 yards.
The Hornady 150gr .312" bullets group 1 1/2" to 2" at 200 yards with surplus 4895. I'm out of this powder, my buddy has 6 pounds and won't sell me any! Hopefully new H4895 that I loaded but haven't tested yet will work good.

I have another friend that has a whole bunch of Arg. Mausers, 1891s and 1909s. He won't part with these I'm sure.

Like this one? I like both the Engineers (mountain) and Calvary carbines and have been lucky enough to have 2 of each. The Engineers are especially scarce. I've been resisting but will probably end up selling my spare of each. 314299 and Red Dot will shoot ragged holes at 50 yds and is a great way to spend an afternoon. I don't think it much matters which Argentine you get, they are a step above the "average" Mauser, IMHO.

Well, I picked the engineers carbine (mountian) at the last
gunshow. It's in really nice shape with all matching numbers
except the stock. It's only lacking the cleaning rod.
