Not sure where to ask this so here goes.

Does anyone have any experience with this cartridge?

http://www.municion.org/6_5rR/6_5rR.htm

I get the general idea that to form the cases I would need to neck size 7.62x54R to 7mm and the run through a FL sizer to 6.5, thin the case neck and fire form. Any idea if this is close or a source of comercial brass? Maybe Finn?

Thanks,

I'm not of any help to you but that sure is a fine looking round I've thinking about that one ever since I got involved with the Mosin. Thought that it might work real good on a single shot too.

Simple minds must think alike :kidding:.

I've thought it would be a great single shot round, hiwall or a roller maybe.

Well I did find comercial brass. Bertram makes it and Midway and Graf & Sons sell it (among others I am sure.) The brass is about $3.00 per case but if I had to form them I would probably be out at least as much in dies. I found dies at CH4D.

Just buy Winchester, Norma, Lapua, S&B, or PPU 7.62x54R brass, and re-form.

I buy Winchester (drawn by S&B) for $46 / 100 cases. For what you would pay for each piece of commercial 6.5x54R brass, you could have 7+ standard cases.

Whether or not it is worth it to you, depends on how many cases you would form over the life of the dies.

How do you form your brass? Any special dies or steps?

This brass would be easy to form if you have time.
New brass - run an expander in it to make sure it is round and you get no folds or creases
Size the neck in one of Hornadys short neck dies to 7mm with the expander remove.
(another intermediate die if you can't find the Hornady is find a grungy .284 Win or 7mm Rem Mag sizer and cut it back to the right length)
Then FL size in the final dies.
If you have any question send me a PM. I form .303 Brith brass to be used in the 6.5X53R Dutch Mannlicher round.

Hmm, you'd basically wind up with a rimmed 6.5x55. If that's what you want, buy a Swedish mauser.
