Just remembered this one. I worked in a foundry with a Pantex X-ray machine and pretty well ran it myself for sample casting work, no production. There was annual service on the unit and one day I walked in and the x-ray source head was repaired and about 20 pounds of pure dead soft lead from the replacement parts was left in a box. It was free for the taking.
If you are around a larger city, check the phone book or search the net for x-ray service or x-ray machine repair. They normally have a person that hits the road to do the repairs and service the units. Give them a try. Make it painless for them or a a little money in their pocket when it is done it will be easier to get them to buy into the deal.
