Jack Huntington provided this to me upon request.

He also has brass for $.44 a pc +$7 per hundred shipping.

He was not happy with the accuracy of the loads with asterisks.

The duplicate H110 loads are from two different lot numbers to show that there can be variance - so work up to max loads.

THANKS JACK!

How long will it be before someone else notices?

The only loads he liked with the 350 gr. were light loads with Trailboss?

subsonic

I assume he meant the max loads were not accurate.

I shot a 350gr speer jsp deepcurl over 33gr H110 yesterday, and I would not call it inaccurate, considering yesterdays conditions. I just shot those because they were cheap an I don't have a mold yet. Still researching it, but it's not going to be lighter than 440gr.
Each gun is it's own and there are a lot of variables left to speculation.

Thats why you have to work up your own loads using this data as a guide for safety.

I like the info, thank you. It is more then I have.

No problem. Notice anything about it? Have a Hodgdon manual handy?
All Hodgdon powders... :-D

Yes because Hodgdon now handles most powders, IMR, WW and their own. They have a large spread to fit most anything.

The only thing I noticed was it is just like Freedom Arms data for the 500WE.

How long is JRH brass? I just picked up a FA in 500 WE and was wondering the difference.

1.395"

The BFR cylinder, on a production model, is 1.850" give or take a couple thou'.

Those of you that have .500JRHs, may also find the thread above interesting.

Only the belted brass, more expensive. A solution to a non existing problem to make money.

Well I had thought about a JRH. I needed to find a deal on a FA to have him convert. I then came across this 500 WE and they are ballistic twins so no need for a JRH anymore.

I don't know if they are exact twins or not.

See the other thread where we talk about water capacity. Also, there is the slight case length difference.

For all intents and purposes, on the receiving end, I don't think there is a difference. BUT, I would be careful with load data.

Save conversion money, it will pay for a lot of WE brass. Nothing wrong with it.
I have one caution, watch how you shoot deer with it or you can have a MUSH pile! :bigsmyl2::bigsmyl2: Ask how I know.

I'm planning a 450 grain SWC at about 1100-1200fps. I might go out on a limb and do a LFN of the same weight. Hell maybe I'll try them both!!!

Toby

Mellonhead, could you measure and post here the water capacity of a WE case that has been trimmed to minimum length?

It would help answer some questions.....

I have 1 pcs of brass here. Let me seat a primer in it and I'll let you know. Be back in 5 minutes.

A piece of new unsized brass from Freedom Arms. I seated a spent primer and heres what I got. The brass weighed 149.6 grains and had a water capacity of 55.6 grains.

Thank you!

This is what I got.
I measured a Hornady .475 Linebaugh, Starline .500jrh, and a Starline .500s&w trimmed to the same length as the jrh case. It shook out like this:

Case - weight - w/h20 - h20 wt
.475lb 153.7 203.5 49.8
.500jrh 175.5 229.8 54.3
.500sw 178.4 232.8 54.4

I think we should do a group buy for a 550 WFN in .502" Maybe do a double crimp groove to accomodate the Freedom and the BFR.

subsonic

Won't fit. No room in the JRH with Starline brass. Maybe, but probably still wouldn't fit in the WE because of the short cylinder.

How about a 440gr WLN PB with a .380" length nose and 2 lube grooves? That should fit both and match pretty close to the 440gr used in the load data. I prefer the NOE molds to the MPs.

I still haven't got a JRH mold. Too many irons in the fire.

How about a 440-450 grain LFN with a .380-.390 nose length and a 70-72% meplat?

Toby

subsonic
03-12-2012, 04:57 PM
I'm ok with that too. Just figured more mass appeal with the W in the FN. I have been liking 75%.

If we're going with the smaller meplat, I'd opt for the .390" nose.

mellonhead
03-12-2012, 05:12 PM
.390 is probably the max I could do for nose length. By the looks of things we would be waiting about 8-10 months for this if we got enough interest right now! Not sure if I could wait that long!!!

True. Maybe this could be a second mold...
I'm on week 5 on my mountain mold for my .475, so nothing seems fast.

subsonic

.380" 440 75% meplat?

A true "LFN" would be .500" - .125" = .375". .500*.7 = .350"

I want at least a .100" front driving band and 2 lube grooves.

Too heavy and too much in the brass. You will reach the taper and expand it and the round will not chamber.
I found things worse in the .500 Linebaugh with the taper up higher from the parent brass.
JRH brass holds 55 gr of water. Level, no bulge on top from surface tension.

Jim, you guys must have heavier water in VA! I only got 54.3gr.

Case measured 1.395" on the button for length. How long was yours? How many times fired/trimmed?

Same length but I admit, our water is full of lime! :holysheep
We live next to an old limestone quarry.
The thing is, it takes so little water to change readings, half a drop is a LOT.

Whitworth graciously sent me a few Hornady brand .500 S&W brass to measure. I was hoping, and had heard, that you could seat deeper in them once cut to .500JRH length. This would allow a heavier than 500gr bullet or boolit.

After taking a depth measurement using a pin gauge comparing Hornady to Starline, the Starline is actually the deeper of the two. The Hornady is about .030" shallower. Bummer.

That only leaves MagTech brand brass to investigate, unless someone else is making .500 S&W brass?

Isn't this load data identical to the FA's data for the 500 WE?
If it is the duplicate loads one without pressure figures shows the difference in velocity with the same load in a 71/2 inch revolver as opposed to the test barrel.. Not different lot numbers of powder.
How would we know the differences in lot numbers without the psi numbers comparing the two?????
That would be kinda dumb in a way. Of course that is just my opinion.
