One of my brothers made a fantastic discovery today.

He found a plumbing supply house that takes a loss on certified 99.9% pure lead ingots, when selling to certain commercial accounts (because the cost of lead is inconsequential, in comparison to the cost of the pipe and fittings it's used on).
My brother is an authorized party on one of those accounts, including purchases for personal use.

25-pound ingot chains (five linked 5-pound round ingots) go for $0.61 / lb.:holysheep

We'll be cleaning out their current stock, by the end of the week. [smilie=w:

I bet a lot of plumbing supply houses will get rid of there stock of lead as all the plumbers I know replace cast and lead joints with PVC or CPVC any more. might be worth asking. We live in a plastic world.

There is no lead shortage.
There is a shortage of people willing to look in the right places, is all.

Obviously, free lead would be better; but I can't argue with certified lead at 30+ cents below spot price.
