I have a Lipsey's blued 45 convertible 4-5/8 on the way and I should have it this week or next.

I have cast a bunch of Lyman 454190 in the last two days. After Googling and Booliting, I have decided that the 45-270-SAA mold is something I must have. Of course RCBS has it and several online sources have it.

Is there someplace in Cast Boolits that I can find a place to purchase this mold. I have seen the group buy of the clone and that would be fine, but I don't see anything current. Where should I go?

I am asking for direction from the faithful.

I have the same gun in 5 1/2" and have that group buy mold...you need it in .452. I have it in hollow point...shoots great out of that gun. There may have been extras made in the group buy or somebody wanting to sell theirs. One will show up somewhere. Good luck. Scott ps There was an article recently in gun mag that will tell load capacity for that particular gun....maybe someone can cut and paste the article.... It can handle 45+p loads but NOT "Ruger Only" loads. Still really nice!!!

I purchased mine at Midsouth some years ago...

You might want to post a WTB in The Swapping and Selling forum...

Who knows, you might find one...

Good-luck...BCB

Those molds must be of exceptional quality--a bit pricey compared to the RCBS molds...

But, maybe one gets what one pays for...

They are 4C brass molds. They are of excellent quality also. I'm sure many here will agree.

Much thanks.

I'm not debating that--just stating that...

I have this mold in a 4C HP version. And yes very high quality. I'd also like a solid version.

762 shooter,

I think Okie2 may be referencing Brian Pierce's RCBS 45-270 SAA article here: http://www.riflemagazine.com/magazine/PDF/HL%20246partial.pdf

You will be extremely happy with the Mihec mould. They just flat don't get any better!

I have that mould in both solid and hollow point. Superb - just flat superb!

Brian Pierce's article is the best information to be had with this bullet.

My HP mold boolits have been pretty accurate out of my 5 1/2" BH .45 colt. Still trying to find the right load for my SBH Bisley Hunter.

What do your solids weigh? Do you know if the the RCBS mold version weighs the same as MiHec's?

The Brian Pierce article is what tipped me over the edge.

The prices I was seeing for the two cavity RCBS moulds were running in the low $70. With shipping it would have been close to $80. RCBS had them for $90 + shipping.

A MiHec 4 cavity mould in brass for $110 to my door, was a no brainer. Plus I was shopping Cast Boolit "local".

I'm excited.

The understatements of the day!

This bullet is the one in my avatar, it was cast from clip-on WW +2% Sn & air cooled.

Lefty SRH, my Mihec casts my WW at 283 grains, don't have the RCBS mold so cannot compare.

I have shot my Colt far more since getting this mold just for the joy of using this mold. Yep Dale, quite the understatements.

One of THE absolute BEST bullet designs I've ever used in a variety of .45 pistols.

In my FA M-83 in either .45 Colt or .454 Cas loads it simply WORKS.

Same in a couple of S&W revolvers, loaded to traditional as well as LOW +P levels. VERY accurate and should work fine on game.

GOOD choice with the MIHA mould!

Cbrick,

I must be getting old. That is one sexy bullet.

I forgot to ask, what handles will work?

Here's what the Mihec bullet looks like:

Here is the "work of art" bullet mould that allows you to cast these fine bullets (Mihec four cavity brass mould);

I hear ya, I'd compare that with any centerfold out there and not anywhere near as expensive.
