What charge weights do you guys reccomend?
I know some of you have tried it.
I am looking to increase my load density, yet not push the boolit past 2200 ish.

Any ideas?

Start at 34 gr, work uo in 1 gr increments, use a dacron filler until loading density is at 85%. If your rifle has a 12" twist 2200+ fps with very useable accuracy with 311299 is quite feasable. If a 10" twist then 2000 - 2100 is more probable.

Thanks for the info Larry! I was thinking of starting at that charge, but wanted a more experienced cast boolet shooter to confirm my plans.

Have you ever used Filler for Varget at 34.0 grains?
I am getting 2150fps with that charge.

Yes my twist is 1:12"

Yes, with any powder (except the fast pistol powders) in the slow end of the "fast group"; 4227, 2400, 4198, 4759, 5744, etc) up through the slow burners I use a dacron filler when loading density is at or less than 80 - 85%. That includes Varget.

With that bullet I favor AA4350 over IMR4350 as it seems a little more consistent in ignition with the reduced psi loads with cast bullets. Don't hesitate to try H4831SC or even RL22 with that 311299 bullet in your 12" twist .308W.

I have a ruger compact in 308 win and you have answered some questions for me on the 311299 I cast up some this afternoon. 50/50 about 1.5% tin water quenched. My question is I have some reloaded 22 and have no load data for cast bullets.what is a good starting and ending point.

I think that Ruger has a 10" twist(?) so start at 36 gr and case capacity with RL22 will be the ending point. work up in 1 gr increments. Under 85% loading density use a 1/2 - 3/4 gr dacron filler. Accuracy should tighten up as you work up and then go south as it goes beyond the RPM threshold. Use at least 7 shot test strings and chronograph if you can for consistency of the load.

Yep 1-10 twist and start with 36 gr Rl22
I didn't mean to hijack this thread, sorry

No problem Lead chucker! This thread is for everyone to benefit!

I might even try the R22 route, just to see.

I've found the stick powders tend to peen the boolit bases without a protective wad. Ball powders less so. I've also found the a dense polyester filler protects the boolit base from powder peening. But then I'm using a soft alloy.
